Rock 'n' Roll Las Vegas Marathon Takes Over Strip with 26K Runners

Rock 'n' Roll Las Vegas Marathon Takes Over Strip with 26K Runners

The Strip Becomes a Race Track

Last Sunday night, 26,000 runners from around the world turned the Las Vegas Strip into their personal race track during the 18th anniversary of the CELSIUS Rock ‘n’ Roll Running Series Las Vegas. As someone who's lived in Summerlin for years, I can tell you that seeing the Strip completely shut down for runners is pretty spectacular – and trust me, the logistics alone are mind-blowing.

The half marathon and 10K took participants past all our iconic spots: the “Welcome to Las Vegas” sign, through Downtown, and finishing right at The Fountains of Bellagio. That finish line setup with Resorts World's massive LED screen creating what they‘re calling the “World’s Largest Selfie opportunity” was honestly genius marketing.

Elite Athletes Shine on the Strip

Travis Feeny from Utah dominated the men's half marathon with a time of 1:05:09, while Jessa Hanson from Flagstaff took the women's title at 1:14:47. What impressed me most was 16-year-old Mary MacDonald from Massachusetts crushing the wheelchair division in 1:15:11 – beating her nearest competitor by over 16 minutes.

Feeny mentioned the perfect weather and how seven guys stayed together for most of the race before he broke away in the final half mile. Hanson drove down from Flagstaff specifically because she “heard there was a party on Vegas happening” – which pretty much sums up why people love racing here. The Rock ‘n’ Roll Running Series really knows how to make runners feel like celebrities.

Local Flavor and Last-Minute Decisions

My favorite story has to be Sam Juson from the UK, who literally registered Saturday evening while on vacation and ended up winning the 10K in 31:58. That's so Vegas – making spontaneous decisions that pay off big time. Meanwhile, local Henderson runner Rachael Robnett, a UNLV professor, scored her third PR at this race while taking the women's 10K title in 37:40.

Saturday's 5K at Fremont Street Experience brought the energy downtown, with local runner Pedro Rios winning in 16:08. The post-race party at the Downtown Las Vegas Event Center featured DJ performances and interactive games, proving that even our 5K events know how to throw a proper Vegas celebration.

More Than Just Running

Before the main events, nearly 300 participants joined “CELSIUS Yoga on The Strip” right on the closed roads – because where else can you do yoga in the middle of Las Vegas Boulevard? It's these unique touches that make Vegas events special.

The series continues with Washington D. C. on March 21 and Nashville in April, but honestly, good luck topping what we offer here. When runners from all 50 states and over 60 countries show up for your event, you know you‘re doing something right. The combination of our iconic scenery, perfect weather, and that unmistakable Vegas energy creates an experience that’s tough to replicate anywhere else.
