Craig Ranch Regional Park Hosts 36th Annual AIDS Walk Las Vegas

Vegas Takes on AIDS Awareness in North Las Vegas

Well honey, after 36 years of watching this city grow and change, I've seen a lot of causes come and go, but some fights never stop being important. This April 26th, Aid for AIDS of Nevada is moving their annual AIDS Walk to Craig Ranch Regional Park in North Las Vegas, and let me tell you, this isn‘t just about changing venues – it’s about reaching the communities that need it most.

Back in my day, we didn‘t talk about HIV/AIDS openly like we should have. Now I’m proud to see organizations like AFAN making sure everyone gets the support they need, no matter which zip code they call home. The morning kicks off with a community festival and resource fair at 9 a.m., followed by the actual walk at 10 a.m.

Smart Move to North Las Vegas

You know what I love about this relocation? It shows real understanding of where the need is greatest. Craig Ranch Regional Park sits right in the heart of neighborhoods experiencing higher rates of new HIV cases. After decades of watching Vegas expand, I've seen how North Las Vegas has grown into a vibrant community that deserves the same access to resources as anywhere else on the Strip.

The Craig Ranch Regional Park provides plenty of space for walkers, entertainers, and local businesses to come together. It‘s exactly the kind of community gathering that builds real connections – something I’ve always valued about Vegas, whether you're talking about old-school neighborhoods or newer developments.

Supporting Real Vegas Families

What gets me excited about events like this is seeing how the money raised actually helps our neighbors. AFAN's programs include free HIV testing, medical case management, and housing assistance – services that keep families together right here in Southern Nevada. My grandkids are growing up in a Vegas where conversations about health and prevention happen openly, which gives this grandma hope.

The organization provides prevention education and community outreach that serves individuals and families across our entire region. That‘s the Vegas spirit I remember – taking care of each other, whether you’re a longtime local or just moved here last month.

Walking for a Better Vegas

This AIDS Walk Las Vegas represents everything I‘ve come to appreciate about how our city has evolved. We’re not just the entertainment capital anymore – we‘re a real community where people look out for each other. The event brings together walkers, entertainers, and businesses for something bigger than any individual show or attraction.

If you’re looking for a meaningful way to spend a Sunday morning, head out to North Las Vegas on April 26th. It‘s a chance to be part of Vegas history in the making, supporting neighbors who might not otherwise have access to critical health services. Trust me, after watching this city change for decades, events like this remind me why I’m still proud to call Las Vegas home.
