Before WWE made Money in the Bank its own pay-per-view, it was a gimmick match on Wrestlemania 21’s undercard. Edge came out as the winner of the inaugural contest and held the briefcase for almost a year. He finally cashed in on John Cena, who had just survived an elimination chamber match against five other competitors at New Years' Resolution. All it took was two spears for Edge to finally become WWE Champion! It also marked the beginning of Money in the Bank becoming a household name in WWE.
